Jon Anik highlights major similarity between McGregor and Dricus Du Plessis

Recently, UFC commentator Jon Anik has highlighted a similarity between former UFC champion Conor McGregor and current Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis. While comparing the two, Anik pointed out a striking similarity between Dricus Du Plessis and Conor McGregor in terms of their trash talking. 

According to Anik, Du Plessis has a great ability to mock and trouble the best fighters. When it comes to using rhetoric skills, there is no better comparison than “The Notorious.”

Jon Anik had a candid conversation with MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn recently. During the chat, Anik highlighted Du Plessis’ amazing ability to intimidate his opponents. He stated that “Stillknocks” can land verbal and psychological blows with precision without much effort, a skill that is no different from the Irishman. 

“Not unlike Conor McGregor, there’s nothing really scripted,” said Anik. He also noted that Dricus’ abilities as a speaker definitely include premeditated thinking, but he delivers his speeches naturally, which effectively intimidates high-level elite opponents who probably shouldn’t fall for that kind of bait. 

Conor McGregor is known for his blunt remarks and mind games. The Irishman rarely prepares scripted lines, and most of the time he lets his words flow effortlessly, which leaves his opponents perplexed. Anik sees a similar dynamic in “Stillknocks,” whose bold comments have already triggered Israel Adesanya. 

Anik further pointed out that Du Plessis’s authenticity and lack of pretense make his trash talk all the more endearing. However, while many may dismiss his comments as mere banter, the UFC commentator suggests there is a big impact behind his words. Dricus Du Plessis’ statement already sparked a lot of talk before his highly anticipated match against Adesanya at UFC 305.

 

Stillknocks successfully defended his title at UFC 305 

The rivalry between Du Plessis and “The Last Stylebender” had deeper roots as it turned into a fight of pride. Du Plessis claimed that he is the first ever African to win a UFC championship, a comment that enraged Israel Adesanya, who was born in Nigeria, a country in Africa. Adesanya stated that by making the comment “First real African champion,” Du Plessis has not only disrespected him but former UFC champions Francis Ngannou and Kamaru Usman.

Unfortunately, Israel Adesanya failed to defeat Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 305 and take back his honor and title. “The Last Stylebender” lost via submission in the fourth round of this highly anticipated matchup.
